Every 4 years a World Scout Jamboree is held and the next is to be held in South Korea. Birthday cut-off dates are carefully determined to ensure that every Scout and Explorer has the opportunity to apply for a place at a World Jamboree.

Mid Sussex Scout District was able to get places to enable 12 young people from Scout Groups and Explorer Scout Units to attend the Jamboree. With over 40 applicants for the 12 spaces, it was necessary to establish a selection process to determine the lucky 12.

A selection weekend was held at 1st Burgess Hill Scout HQ testing the applicants in Scouting Skills, Teamwork, preparing their own meals and a video booth to make a short video on any subject they chose. After a busy weekend, the selection panel with members from outside Mid Sussex had the difficult task of selecting 12 from the outstanding group of Scouts and Explorers.

The lucky 12, pictured here, have been notified and now face a hectic 18 months of team building activities and camps with other members from districts across West Sussex who will make up part of the UK contingent. At the same time they have to fundraise to meet the cost of attending the Jamboree.

If you see them about at various activities, please support them as they prepare for a fantastic experience which they will remember for a long long time.
