What does “Youth Shaped” mean?
It’s about young people working together with volunteers to shape, influence, and lead their adventure. It is (and always has) been central to scouting and by empowering young people to share ideas and lead, it allows scouting to evolve and grow.
Why is it important?
We are a youth organisation that prioritises Skills for Life, inclusion and community impact – Young people will always be central to this and what better way than for them to shape and lead their programme. Young people are the future and by showing them they are heard and understood we are enabling them to shape the future, and help them when they become leaders.
What are District Youth Leads?
Volunteers between 18 and 25 who are responsible for driving youth shaped scouting. They are on the District Trustee board to ensure young people are at the centre of decisions and they support volunteers to shape programmes and promote YouShape awards and Top awards.
Who are Mid Sussex District Youth Leads?
Hi, I’m Charlotte and I have been in scouting since I was a cub. I was a young leader for 4 years and achieved my young leader belt and since then I have been an adult leader for 2 years! I love camping, shooting and anything watersports. I have got so much from scouting through the years and I aspire to give back to the community that has shaped me!
Hi I’m Hannah and I have been in scouting for 14 years both as a young person and now as a leader for 3 years. I recently attended Roverway 2024 in Norway as an Assistant Patrol leader and have supported young people on many camps and activities. I look forward to promoting youth voices in scouting and assisting leaders in program development and district events.
How do I make my programme youth shaped?
There are endless ways to do it, and you are probably doing it already! The scout website has some great ideas in the YouShaped award however we also have some programme ideas and sessions you/ we can run to get you going.
