District Lead Volunteer – Keith Waller

Little bit of scouting history about myself, I joined the Scout movement in 1968 as a Cub at the 31st Brighton, moving to Scouts and Ventures with the 31st Brighton before taking my 1st leader position in 1980 as Assistant Scout Leader at the 53rd Brighton, later taking over as Scout Leader, I then moved to the 39th Brighton taking the position as SL, CSL and GSL at various times during my time at the group. While in Brighton I was also a District Scout Leader running events such as the Bakers Dozen a forerunner to our own Mid Sussex Challenge Hike.

Following a work move to Buckinghamshire in 2002 I joined the 1st Cheddington Scouts, in the Vale of Aylesbury District as ASL and took up the position as ADC (Scouts) running Escape and Evasion an event that I have since brought to Mid Sussex. Returning to Sussex in 2007 I joined the 1st Durrington as SL.

In 2010 with the formation of Mid Sussex District from the amalgamation of Southdown and Haywards Heath Districts, Robin Springer approached me to be the ADC (Scouts) for the District and as they say the rest is history.

I am currently putting together some plans for the District in the next 5 years, which will look at opportunities for growth, Including more Squirrel Dreys, new District activities particularly for the younger sections. We also have challenges with the impending loss of the Redwood Centre making the 10th Haywards Heath homeless and delivering the new Scout HQ and Community facility for the 7th Burgess Hill.

I look forward to working with you all over the next 5 years.

Support Team Lead – Mike Larcombe

Some of you will know me as District Badge Secretary but I have held a number of roles in Scouting since I first joined as an Assistant Beaver Scout Leader in 1983. These have included DC of Southdown District (now part of Mid Sussex), Group Scout Leader of both a Haywards Heath Group and a Burgess Hill Group, and a County Role as Media Development Manager. I am married to Margaret, Volunteer Development Team Lead. I have enjoyed my Scouting roles, seeing young people grow over the years and look forward to seeing this continuing.
